Dr. Vijayan has been working as a Urologist from 1990 , first in England and then in Kerala State, India from 1994. He had his higher Urology training from England, where he spent nearly 5 years in training. He qualified from the London Institute of Urology in 1991. He was introduced to Laparoscopic (key hole) surgery in Urology at Kings College, London in 1993. He  later underwent advanced Laparoscopic training as a Fellow in Chi Mei Med. Centre, Taiwan in 2001.

His special area of interest is Laparoscopy & reconstructive Urology and has been doing laparoscopic Urology procedures from 1994. He has many firsts in his name including the  first to perform laparoscopic Orchidopexy, Nephrectomy, Radical Nephrectomy, Radical Nephroureterectomy etc. in this state. In 2002 he organized the first laparoscopic workshop for Urologists in the State of Kerala.

SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS 

1. First to perform Laparoscopic procedures in Nizam Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, India. (1000 bed P.G. Institute)
2. First to perform laparoscopic procedure in Urology Department of Derby City Hospital (and Medical School) Urology Department, UK (2003)
3. Conducted 1^st Laparoscopic Urology Workshop in Kerala State,  under Urology Society of Kerala (2002)
4. First to perform Laparoscopic Nephroureterectomy(2004), Nephrectomy (1994),  Orchidopexy (1995) and other Urology procedures in Kerala Sate
5. First to perform Laparoscopic pyeloplasty in a 2 month old infant.

5. Member of core committee in organizing the USICON (Annual conference of Urology Society of India) 2004
6. Founder member, Association of Minimally Invasive Surgeons of India.
